When the car went over the side, Libby passed away, and Princess X died with her.Once upon a now: May is sixteen and lonely, wandering the streets of Seattle, when she sees a sticker slapped in a corner window.Princess X?When May looks around, she sees the Princess everywhere: Stickers. The more May explores the webcomic, the more she sees disturbing similarities between Libby's story and Princess X online. How a webcomic helps to solve a mystery!
The book I am Princess X by Cherie Priest is an engaging tale about a young princess Alexandra and her quest for freedom and self-discovery. The author herself is an award-winning novelist and is well-known for her imaginative worlds and vivid descriptions. I believe this book is most appropriate for readers ages 10-12 (not really for older kids or younger in my opinion). The story starts off with Princess Alexandra being sent away from her home to a secluded convent in the woods, where she meets various creatures and learns of a forbidden magic hidden in the woods. As she befriends the weird and wonderful creatures she finds and discovers a chance at freedom, she also finds out secrets that her family kept hidden away. The story draws on and incorporates many classic fairy tales and stories, including references to Snow White and The Brave Little Tailor. It is a wonderful blend of classic fantasy and modern storytelling, with Priest seamlessly weaving the old and the new to create a wondrous tale. The setting of Princess Alexandra’s journey is truly stunning. It is a lush and mystical land radiating with beauty and history that is both comforting and disquieting. The characters, both human and non-human, are memorable and vivid, and each has a unique and personal story of their own, which adds to the depth of the story. I found this book an easy and enjoyable read and give it 5 stars.
