Story / Interest
Imaginative, but a bit repetitive
The title alone made me pick up this book. My Big, Fat Zombie Goldfish is a fun and exciting story by Mo O’Hara that follows the adventures of a young boy, Tom, and his pet zombie goldfish, Frankie. Tom and his family had bought Frankie at the pet store, not knowing the fish was really a zombie, and soon find themselves in a strange underwater world with lots of other zombie fish. Tom teams up with Finn, a Sharkanoid, who helps him survive the dangers of the deep sea and find the source of the zombie transformation. This fun, entertaining novel is sure to keep readers I would recommend My Big, Fat Zombie Goldfish for readers aged 6-10. I don’t love the overuse of the word “moron” throughout the book and it is a bit repetitive in places. That said, this book is full of action and humor. Readers will be amused by the various characters and their antics, as well as the bizarre events in the book. At the same time, this book also touches on subjects like friendship, family, and self-esteem. The book will also keep younger kids engaged as they learn about the deep sea and science behind the zombie transformation. This book is a great choice for young readers who like sci-fi, adventure, and most of all, fun.
