Loved this book!
A big fan of backstories, I enjoyed Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin, by Liesl Shurtliff. The book is a beautifully written and engaging story about a mysterious fairy tale character that has captivated readers for centuries. Told from the point-of-view of Rump, the protagonist shares his life-long journey as he searches for his missing true identity. Readers will follow as Rump undergoes a transformation from a nameless character to a true hero. This book is appropriate for ages 8-12. Part of the appeal of the story is the blending of magical elements, such as talking animals and wizards, with more practical matters such as acquiring knowledge, creating family, and understanding oneself. The story is inspiring and will leave children feeling uplifted at the end. Overall, I give this a 5 out of 5. If you or your kids ever watched Once Upon a Time, you will love this book.
